INSURANCE OPTIONS
We have three different insurance excess options to choose from: Basic Cover, Mid Cover and EPIC Cover. The main difference between them is the amount of excess (also know as deductible) you are liable for in the event of damage to the vehicle, as well as the bond amount (which gets frozen on your card during your trip, and charged in the event of damages).
See below for a breakdown of the different options across each of our four vehicle types.
Please ensure you’re looking at the correct vehicle type, and the age bracket of the youngest driver.
Please Note:
EPIC Cover covers all the standard accidental damage to the vehicle, including windscreens, tyres, underbody damage etc.
There are a few exclusions which are NOT covered under EPIC cover. See our terms & conditions for the list. These are almost all “user-error” situations such as; if you take the van off-road, or if you get the van bogged / trapped in snow or mud etc.
Our insurance options cover the vehicle only. We recommend you have your own travel insurance for your personal items.
The minimum driver age for The Grand and The Plus is 21, for The Duo and The Original it’s 18.
When you submit or convert your quote to a booking request you can upgrade to Mid Cover or EPIC Cover. Alternatively you can do this by emailing us at a later date, or when you arrive to collect your campervan.
An outside table and 2 x chairs are included free with EPIC Cover. There is no need to add in table and chairs separately to your booking if you select EPIC Cover.
We recommend upgrading to EPIC Cover for the following reasons:
You will be driving a vehicle you’re not used to, likely in a foreign country where some road rules and conditions may differ.
You will be responsible for our costs to repair any new damage to the van (up to the excess amount), even if you’re not at fault, unless you have upgraded to EPIC cover as below.
Vehicle repair costs are very high in New Zealand and often take a long time.
You will also be liable for lost rental revenue if we are unable to rent the van to the next customers due to damage, unless you have upgraded to EPIC cover as below.
Taking EPIC cover also means that you don’t have to pay a bond (between $2,500-$10,000 depending on which option / vehicle).
We have purposely priced our premium insurance option EPIC Cover at a below market rate compared with most competitors. This is because we know it results in the best customer experience while streamlining operations.
And most importantly, taking EPIC Cover gives you complete peace of mind when you’re travelling, which is worth it’s weight in gold when you’re on holiday!
At EPIC Campers, our core business is delivering exceptional campervan experiences, and we pride ourselves on our reputation and excellent customer reviews. One of our company values is, “What we say = what we do”, which means if you take EPIC Cover, you’re fully covered (unless you’re doing something silly like driving off-road on a beach etc, see our terms & conditions for the list of exclusions).
Rest assured, if you choose EPIC, you are in good hands and you can relax and enjoy your New Zealand campervan experience as it’s meant to be, which is 100% EPIC!
