The Duo is our modern Nissan NV200 (2021 or newer). Easy to drive like a car, but cleverly fitted out to feel roomy and comfortable for two.

It’s the perfect step up from The Original:

You’ll get blackout curtains for a proper night’s sleep, a solar roof fan to stay cool, CarPlay for maps and music, inverter power for laptops and cameras, and a swing-away table so you can relax and eat inside.

So if you want more comfort and modern touches than The Original, but don’t need the extra size and all-season comfort of The Plus, then The Duo is your sweet spot.

The Duo is the sweet spot for travellers who want a higher quality van than The Original but don’t need the size and price of The Plus. HOW DO I KNOW IF I SHOULD CHOOSE THE DUO OR UPGRADED TO THE PLUS?

Pick The Duo if you value modern comforts like blackout curtains, CarPlay, solar roof fan, and indoor dining with the swing-away table, while keeping things compact and affordable. Upgrade to The Plus if you want a larger bed, a bigger toilet, drawers for more storage, a full solar panel, parking sensors — and importantly, the indoor cooking table that makes bad-weather and winter trips more comfortable.

WHAT’S ACTUALLY INCLUDED IN THE DUO?

A full-length small double bed with bedding, blackout curtains, mains power inverter, solar roof fan, pull-out kitchen (outdoor under the tailgate), sink with extendable tap, fridge, fixed cassette toilet (usable even with the bed down), USB-A and USB-C charging, dimmable lighting, swing-away dining table, under-bed and pantry storage, and self-containment certification (green sticker under 2025 rules).

IS THE DUO SELF-CONTAINED UNDER THE 2025 RULES?

Yes — it’s certified self-contained with a fixed cassette toilet, so you can freedom camp where permitted.

HOW LONG CAN I STAY OFF-GRID IN THE DUO?

The 100ah dual-battery system and efficient fridge mean you can stay put for 2–3 days before needing to drive to recharge. There is no electric hookup, so no need for a powered campsite.

HOW DOES INSURANCE WORK WITH THE DUO?

Most Duo travellers choose our EPIC Cover. It gives you $0 liability, requires no bond, and includes a free outdoor table and chairs. For The Duo, EPIC Cover costs $30/day (driver age 26+) or $35/day (driver age 18–25). It’s the easiest, most stress-free way to hit the road. WHERE DO I PICK UP AND DROP OFF MY CAMPERVAN WITH EPIC CAMPERS?

At our Auckland depot on 52 Ascot Road (7 mins from the airport by Uber / taxi) or our Christchurch depot on 186B Okoha Road (15 mins from the airport by Uber / Taxi). We’re open 9am–5pm weekdays and 10am–4pm weekends/public holidays, with the latest pick-up at 4pm (3pm on weekends). Ask if you need an out-of-hours solution — we’ll try to help. You can also leave your luggage or car with us while you travel.

CAN I TAKE THE DUO ON THE FERRY BETWEEN THE NORTH AND SOUTH ISLANDS?

Yes. Book as car/van/ute <5.5m and you’ll get a 10% Bluebridge discount once you’ve booked your camper.

IS THE DUO COMFORTABLE IN WINTER?

Yes. With blackout curtains, an insulated roof and indoor dining space, it’s well-suited for cooler months. For alpine South Island trips, we recommend adding the winter kit (heater + power lead) for extra warmth. If you want indoor cooking capability, choose The Plus.

CAN THE DUP TAKE A CHILD SEAT?

The Duo has 2 seatbelts in the cab. Like The Original, it can only take a front-facing child seat (2+ years old) in the passenger seat. If you need space for a rear-facing seat or a third passenger, check out The Plus.

HOW DOES THE DUO FEEL TO DRIVE?

It’s a Nissan NV200, which drives just like a modern car. Compact and easy to park, but with enough space inside for two adults to live comfortably. The reverse camera helps with tight spots, and the 1.6L petrol engine is efficient and smooth on hills and highways.

DOES THE DUO HAVE AN INDOOR KITCHEN?

No — like the Original and the Plus, The Duo’s kitchen pulls out from the back under the tailgate, which works perfectly in most NZ conditions. You can add the rear canopy tent if you’d like extra shelter while cooking. If you specifically want an indoor cooking setup for winter or wet weather, take a look at The Plus.
